Set in the heart of the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Giant’s Castle Game Reserve is one of KwaZulu-Natal’s most scenic destinations. Overlooking the Bushman’s River and the famous “sleeping giant” mountain profile, this historic 34,638-hectare reserve (proclaimed in 1903) is renowned for its dramatic scenery, San rock art, diverse hiking trails, and the conservation of the endangered Bearded Vulture.

Guests can enjoy self-catering chalets, mountain views, and the unique Lammergeier Hide, offering close-up photography of vultures, eagles, jackals, and other wildlife. Large herds of eland roam the grassy slopes, while numerous bird species, antelope, and baboons are frequently seen around camp.

• Birdwatching & Wildlife – Over 170 bird species recorded, with regular sightings of eland, reedbuck and dassies.

• Office Hours: 08h00 – 16h30 (daily)

• No Pets / No Drones permitted.

• Firewood: Bringing your own is not allowed due to beetle infestations. Wood and charcoal available at the shop.

• Access: Roads from Mooi River and Nottingham Road have sections with potholes. Travel via Estcourt is currently recommended.

• Power: 220V Eskom electricity.
